Accreditation Process Overview

Overview of Accreditation Process

The flowchart below is provides an overview of the accreditation process.  It does not contain all information necessary for a program to successfully complete the process.  Please refer to the standards for additional information and details.

Overview is based on the APA Accreditation Standards, Version 2.04, and was accurate as of May 1, 2018. The section numbers have changed, but the general process is similar as they apply to programs seeking initial accreditation.

The standards have since been updated to 2.06. Unless and until an updated flowchart is created, this will remain for general information purposes only. Whereas currently accredited programs may qualify for a virtual site evaluation, it is difficult to diagram the flexibility that such evaluations allow.

The APA is a member of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA), and the APA / EAC adheres to its Code of Good Practice.  For information about ASPA and programmatic accreditation, visit ASPA on the web

The EAC is a standing committee within the American Polygraph Association.
